A dunnage bag, also known as a dunnage airbag or simply an airbag, is an inflatable bag made of a polyethylene inner liner and an outer shell of kraft paper or woven polypropylene.
Dunnage bags stabilize and protect cargo during transportation, commonly in shipping containers, trucks, or railway wagons.
Place an empty dunnage bag between the cargo and inflate it with air until it securely presses the cargo against the inside walls of the transport vehicle.
Neither kraft paper nor PP woven dunnage bags are inherently better. Both types can meet the required bursting pressures when correctly manufactured.
For example, dunnage bags used in container transport should be inflated to a maximum of 20 kPa (0.2 bar / 2.9 PSI) and withstand up to three times this base value, or 60 kPa (0.6 bar / 8.7 PSI).
